Dec 21, 1938 - Jul 31, 1994
Luther Priem was born and raised in Pflugerville and a member of Immanuel Lutheran. He spent his childhood years being reared by a mother who was adamant about participation in church and Sunday school. Saturdays were spent preparing for Sunday school - polishing shoes and such. Luther's sister, Dorthy Warren, recalls that Luther was very conscientious about going to Sunday School. Due to a difficult recovery from a broken leg, Luther found a love for the game of golf with the help of Mr. Earl Klattenhoff. Although somewhat of a shy person, Luther accepted the position of Sunday school superintendent when invited to do so by Jesse Bohls Jr. Dorthy recalls being very shocked to learn that Luther agreed to do so. Luther faithfully served for 25 years. He and is wife Pat are said to have gotten to the church very early on cold mornings to make sure the classrooms were warm for the kids who would fill them hours later. Luther lived a life with a love for children and a passion for seeing them have a quality Christian education at Immanuel. Luther recognized that there was a need to ensure all children had a Bible of their own and that finances could restrict this. In 1999 Immanuel members joined his love of golf and conviction of placing scripture in the hands of children to begin the Immanuel Lutheran Church Golf Tournament to raise money for just this purpose. The ILC Golf Tournament has been held each year since then to raise funds for the purchase of Bibles for our children as well as lift up the legacy that Luther and his family left upon Immanuel. All thanks and praise to God for the passion Luther carried with him and his dedicated years of service to our Lord and community of faith. Thanks to Dorthy Warren for the great information on the life and legacy of her brother Luther Priem. |
